Shincha is literally translated as "new tea" - this is how tea from the first spring harvest is called in Japan. It is eagerly awaited by all tea fans, as it has a unique, refreshing taste and rich aroma. It offers a brew in the luscious green color of spring leaves. In Japan, shincha is an exceptional treat, with many tea shops organizing sign-ups for the sale of this unique tea as early as several months before the harvest. This year, once again, shincha is also available at Nagomi - it has been shipped especially for you from the tea gardens in the Yame region, famous for its excellent tea. Our shincha comes from the May 2025 harvest.

Yamecha is the tea that comes from plantations in the Yame area (Fukuoka prefecture) in the northern part of Kyushu Island.

    Properties

Shincha is rich in the most valuable ingredients for health - l-theanine, caffeine and antioxidants. Leaves from the first spring harvest contain the most of the nutrients that the tea bushes have accumulated during their winter “rest” and strong growth in the first months of spring.

    Teaware

Shincha is usually prepared in Japan in small (about 300ml) teapots called kyusu. These are small teapots with a distinctive handle perpendicular to the spout. In our gallery you will find them in many designs. Shincha cups are quite small, often gently widening towards the top. In Japan, it is said that cups that are light colour inside allow you to enjoy the emerald color of the tea.

    Brewing method

Prepare a kyusu teapot and tea cups. Boil the water and pour it into the cups to warm the vessels before brewing the tea. Pour 1 teaspoon of tea per person into the teapot and pour the cooled water from the cups (about 70ºC). After 0,5 - 1 minute, shake the teapot slightly and pour the tea into the cups. You can brew the same leaves a second time, preferably with water at a slightly higher temperature for about 0,5 minutes.
