A small cup for matcha tea. Made at the Marui Seito pottery studio in Shigaraki – one of the six oldest pottery centres in Japan. Graphite clay, an irregular shape, handcrafted – the essence of the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic. 

Hechimon refers to unconventional items made by craftsmen in Shigaraki - it is a registered trademark of the Marui Seito studio. Just as nature creates diverse forms and each of us has a unique individuality, so “hechimon” dishes are characterized by diversity and each of them is one of a kind. Potters believe that, more than industrial products, they are thought to resemble agricultural products created by nature. Craftsmen produce clay vessels with dedication and creativity, respecting their uniqueness and giving them exceptional forms.
