Matchawan katakuchi Seigan blue navy blue 300ml
An original vessel with a spout – katakuchi, handmade by Japanese ceramic artist Seigan Yamane. Dark brown clay and striking glazing with a shiny navy blue glaze. A blend of navy blue, blue, brown and black - the cup takes on different colour nuances depending on the lighting. Each time you use it, you will enjoy the pleasure of experiencing contemporary applied art. The artist's signature appears on the bottom of each vessel.
Seigan Yamane is a respected ceramic artist who lives and works in Hagi. Many years of experimentation and experience with traditional materials and techniques are reflected in the artist's unique vessels. His works are usually irregular in shape and made of fairly heavy, often porous clay with small pebbles. They embody the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi. The artist is famous for experimenting with blue glaze, which has already earned the name ‘Seigan blue’. Master Seigan believes that there is some undiscovered mystery in ceramic vessels, and the navy blue colour scheme evokes the image of an infinite universe. Seigan blue is the colour of the sky and the sea, a blend of endless possibilities of blue, navy blue and other colour variations. The artist finds great joy in his daily work and wants to share it with everyone who uses his vessels :)
The vessel can be used as a cup for preparing matcha tea or as a vessel for serving sake or tea. It can be used to cool water for tea, to serve sauces or dressings, or as an original snack bowl. In each of its roles, it will attract attention with its subtle beauty.
