Sencha is the most popular type of tea in Japan. The leaves are harvested in summer, then steamed, rolled and dried. The infusion has a beautiful green color and a refreshing flavor with vegetable notes and a delicate umami. The leaves are quite finely crushed and are in the form of irregular “needles”. It is an excellent tea to drink every day, refreshing, invigorating and cleansing the body of toxins.

This tea has been our bestseller for many years - a high-quality classic tea with excellent value for money.

Cultivar - yabukita, harvest time - summer 2024.

Yamecha is a tea from the Hoshino plantation in the Yame area (Fukuoka prefecture) in the northern part of the island of Kyushu, famous for its centuries-old tradition of cultivating the highest quality premium teas.

    Properties

Sencha is rich in caffeine and catechin, which is formed in tea leaves when exposed to sunlight. Catechin is a very valuable component of green tea for health - it lowers blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels, helps prevent cancer, has antiviral and antibacterial effects. It also helps regulate metabolism and body fat management. As a result, Japanese sencha tea supports weight loss. Sencha contains caffeine and stimulates the body to action, making it a healthy alternative to morning coffee.

    Dishes

Sencha is usually prepared in Japan in small (about 300ml) teapots called kyusu. These are small teapots with a distinctive handle perpendicular to the spout. In our gallery you will find them in many designs. Sencha cups are also low, often gently widening towards the top. In Japan, it is said that cups that are light in the middle allow you to savor the emerald color of the tea.

    Brewing method

Prepare a kyusu teapot and tea cups. Boil the water and pour it into the cups to warm the vessels before brewing the tea. Pour 1 teaspoon of tea per person into the teapot and pour the cooled water from the cups (about 80ºC). After 0,5 - 1 minute, shake the teapot slightly and pour the tea into the cups. You can brew the same leaves a second time, preferably with water at a slightly higher temperature for about 0,5 minutes.
