Teacup floral crystals green 280ml

A unique ceramic cup, handcrafted in a respected pottery studio in Kyoto. It is glazed with a technique called hana kesshou - flower crystals. The effect, resembling blooming flowers, is created by the unique nature of the glaze, which goes through a crystallization process during firing and cooling. Even when using glaze of the same color, the final result is never the same. Small variations in kiln temperature or the thickness of the glaze layer mean that each piece takes on its own unique character. Artisans often only discover the final appearance of their creations after opening the kiln. Subtle tiny flowers, magnificent floral forms, or dense clusters of delicate crystals appear on the surface of the smooth glaze. Thanks to this extraordinary diversity, each vessel becomes a one-of-a-kind work of applied art.

The hana kesshou technique is one of the most highly regarded methods of decorating Kiyomizuyaki ceramics and has been passed down from generation to generation for over 400 years, dating back to the Azuchi-Momoyama period.

The cup has an elegant, round shape and green glaze. It can be used as a cup for tea or cappuccino, or as a mini cup for preparing matcha tea (use a whisk smaller than a traditional chasen). It can also serve as an elegant cocktail glass or a dessert cup.
