An unusual hagiyaki ceramic mug by Sho Keiichiro. Delicately irregular, wavy shapes, beautifully shaped cup rim, gently angular, original handle. Characteristic of the Hagi region, the coarse brick-coloured clay is coated with a uniquely coloured glaze. White blurred with delicate reflections of grey and blue, a warm pastel finish at the bottom of the mug. A sophisticated piece of contemporary Japanese applied art. Sho Keiichiro is a ceramic artist who lives and works in Hagi town. He began to learn the ceramic craft as a high school student and as he grew older, he gained experience and skills in creating beautiful and unique vessels. Sho Keiichiro is particularly interested in tea ceramics and creates according to a tradition that is several hundred years old and from which, he says, comes the ‘warmth’ of the vessels produced in Hagi. He adds an artistic touch to classic techniques, however, and his works are highly regarded by connoisseurs of ceramic art.
