Seigan Yamane is a renowned ceramic artist who lives and works in Hagi. Many years of experimentation and experience with traditional materials and techniques are evident in the artist's unique vessels. His works are usually irregular in shape and made of fairly heavy, often porous clay with small pebbles. They embody the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi. The artist is famous for experimenting with blue glaze, which has already earned the name ‘Seigan blue’. Master Seigan believes that there is some undiscovered mystery in ceramic vessels, and the navy blue colour scheme evokes the image of an infinite universe. Seigan blue is the colour of the sky and the sea, a blend of endless possibilities of blue, navy blue and other colour nuances. The artist enjoys his daily work and would like to share this joy with everyone who uses his vessels.

Due to the fact that they are hand-made, each mug is slightly different from the others – the unique distribution of glaze on the vessel, different colour balance and slight variations in size and shape are natural characteristics of items made by the artist's hand.
