Original matcha tea cup - matchawan - handmade in Ninshu workshop in Kyoto. This is the ceramic workshop at Ninnaji Temple, which is a World Heritage Site. Because of its association with the imperial court (Ninnaji temple was once the residence of Emperor Udo), the Ninshu atelier can use the imperial symbol - the image of a chrysanthemum flower with sixteen petals, which appears on the packaging of ceramic vessels produced at the studio.

The cup is turned on a potter's wheel - the irregular shapes give the vessel a dynamic, artistic character. Light, creamy clay and pinky peach colour glaze with characteristic crackles. A beautiful, perfectly shaped vessel for celebrating matcha tea.
