An original tea teapot handcrafted by esteemed ceramic artist Jiro Umehara in Tokoname, at his Gyokuryu studio. Dark brown clay with a slight sheen, original, slightly flattened shape and comfortable handle. The vessel was decorated using the traditional benishibori technique - the teapot was wrapped in seaweed before firing. The minerals contained in the seaweed created unique patterns on the vessel, resembling the effects achieved on textiles by the traditional shibori technique. This method of decorating ceramics is unique to Tokoname town. Precisely made ceramic tea strainer at the spout inside the teapot. A choice for connoisseurs of tea and unique tea accessories. Mr. Jiro Umehara is a renowned artist with extensive experience, winner of many awards at ceramic exhibitions. He is certified as a “Traditional Artisan Artist” by the Ministry of Economy of Japan for those who have made outstanding contributions to the cultivation of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
