Taisen kyusu mogake sand teapot 200ml

A beautiful tea teapot made at the Taisen pottery studio by Mr Yamamoto, a respected ceramic artist from Yokkaichi.  The teapot is made from a sand-coloured light clay that is unusual for bankoyaki. It is decorated using a traditional method called ‘mogake’, which involves wrapping the ‘raw’ vessel with seaweed - during firing, the seaweed melts into the vessel and leaves an unusual and unique pattern on it, resembling flames of fire dancing on the surface of the vessel. The teapot is extremely light and delicate, with a thin layer of transparent glaze inside. Ceramic strainer at the spout.

Mr Yamamoto Taisen is a certified artisan who brings a new dimension to traditional bankoyaki ceramics. He uses a variety of clays and often uses a fine glaze for his vessels, which is not common in Yokkaichi. Mr Yamamoto practices the way of tea and creates tea vessels to best celebrate tea moments. Many years of experience and family tradition handed down from one generation to the next are the strengths of this artist - great craftsmanship and sensitivity to beauty are evident in his vessels.

PLEASE NOTE: each teapot is handmade and decorated in a unique way. The ordered piece may differ from the one shown in the photo, this applies especially to the mogake pattern on the teapot and the nuances of colour. We hope that this inconvenience will be compensated for by having a unique, one-of-a-kind teapot :)
